The one constraint is the heat — a Heat Advisory covers 11 AM to 8 PM with heat index values of 108 to 110 degrees, so time your sessions around it.
The National Weather Service has a Heat Advisory in effect for Escambia, Santa Rosa and Okaloosa coastal counties from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM CDT today, with heat index values of 108 to 110 degrees. This is the second consecutive day under advisory. Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illness. Drink water steadily rather than waiting until you are thirsty, wear lightweight loose clothing, and keep strenuous activity to the early morning or evening. Take breaks in shade or air conditioning — a beach umbrella alone is not enough at these numbers.
Watch for heat exhaustion: heavy sweating, weakness, dizziness, nausea or confusion. Anyone showing those signs should get to a cool shaded place and drink water immediately. If someone becomes unresponsive or loses consciousness, call 911 — heat stroke is a medical emergency. Check on elderly neighbours and anyone with health conditions, and never leave children or pets in a parked car.
Heat is expected to persist through the weekend and into Monday, and the National Weather Service has noted the possibility of an Extreme Heat Warning being needed for the coastal counties. If you are planning weekend beach time, check the current advisory before you go.
After two days at moderate, rip current risk is back at low across all three beaches, so wading is a reasonable option again. Low risk is not no risk — rips still form around pier pilings, jetties and the passes, which is exactly the structure that holds fish, so keep a foot planted and do not wade alone. Navarre and Pensacola are still flying purple flags for dangerous marine life, so bare legs in the water are a poor idea at those two.

Spanish Mackerel — Strong presence along all three beaches in shallow to intermediate water. Find them near pier pilings, along the troughs and around the shallower sandbars. Morning hours and tidal transitions produce the most consistent action.
Ladyfish — Running strong across all three beaches and showing in the shallow water near shore. Present through the day with a particularly good response during slack water, and mixing with the mackerel in the same zones.
Hardtail — Showing well in mixed concentrations with mackerel and ladyfish near pier structures and sandy bottom. Peak activity comes around the tidal transitions and slack water periods.
Cigs — Present in the deeper water zones and around stronger current areas. Watch for them mixed with other species in intermediate and offshore water during tidal movement.
King Mackerel — In the region with activity concentrated around pier ends and offshore. Morning periods and slack water windows give the best shot.
Bull Redfish — Worth targeting around areas of stronger tide movement where food concentrates. Present through the day with heightened activity during the tidal transitions.
Best approach today: fish the early morning or after the advisory lifts at 8 PM and work the shallow troughs and pier structure where the mixed schools are holding.
Optimal Fishing Windows
The heat shapes the day more than the tide does. Pensacola peaks first at 1.41 ft at 10:53 AM — just before the advisory window opens at 11 AM, which makes it the one high tide of the three you can fish in reasonable conditions. Navarre follows at 1.53 ft at 12:48 PM and Destin at 0.65 ft at 12:59 PM, both in the hottest part of the day. Evening lows run 6:35 PM at Pensacola (0.57 ft), 8:47 PM at Navarre (0.68 ft) and 10:24 PM at Destin (0.21 ft), with the two later ones falling after the advisory lifts. Tidal ranges are the narrowest in a fortnight, all under a foot, so there is less current to work with than last week — concentrate on structure rather than relying on tidal push. King mackerel remain a possibility near the pier ends and offshore. Pier pilings and deeper features concentrate feeding fish. Destin
Spanish mackerel and ladyfish are showing excellent activity across the beaches and piers, with hardtail and cigs mixed in around deeper water. The 12:59 PM high should trigger improved feeding but sits in the hottest part of the day; the 10:24 PM low is the comfortable alternative.
