All three are also flying purple for dangerous marine life, usually jellyfish or man-of-war this time of year — Destin's is back up after three clear days. Watch your legs and your line if you are wading, and avoid anything washed up on the sand. Spanish Mackerel — The most dependable target from beaches and piers at all three locations. Position near pier structures, deeper troughs and along the outer sandbars. Peak activity comes through the morning and around the tidal transitions.
Hardtail — Running alongside the mackerel near pier structures and deeper water. Present through the day with the strongest response during slack water transitions and near concentrated current.
Bonita — Mixed with the other species in deeper water, especially around the pier ends. Boat access or extended pier reach is what makes this one realistic.
Cigs — Holding in deeper water near the pier ends, particularly where bait is concentrated offshore of the beaches. Peak periods align with active tide movement.
King Mackerel — In the mix around the stronger offshore bait concentrations. Morning periods and slack water offer the best windows.
Best approach today: fish the mid-morning high and work the long fall through the afternoon before the heat peaks.
Optimal Fishing Windows
The highs are staggered across roughly two hours, which lets you work more than one beach if you want to. Pensacola peaks first at 2.08 ft at 7:15 AM, then Navarre at 2.10 ft at 8:29 AM and Destin at 0.95 ft at 9:08 AM. All three fall to negative lows in the evening: −0.29 ft at 6:19 PM at Pensacola, −0.24 ft at 7:21 PM at Navarre and −0.05 ft at 8:36 PM at Destin.
