Moderate risk holds through Wednesday — surf 2 to 3 feet again, with showers likely — before easing back to low Wednesday night.
Moderate means life-threatening rip currents are possible in the surf zone. If you are staying on past the holiday, the water you swim in tomorrow will be meaningfully different from today's: three times the surf height and a real current risk. Swim near a lifeguard, stay within your depth, and keep clear of piers and jetties midweek.
Rip risk is low so wading is straightforward, though rips still form around pier pilings, jetties and the passes. Navarre is flying a purple flag for dangerous marine life, so bare legs are a poor idea there. King Mackerel — In the nearshore Gulf outside the surf zone from Pensacola through Navarre to Destin. These favour deeper water and fish best from mid-morning through late afternoon; today's calm seas make spotting them easier.
Cigs — In the nearshore Gulf, visible along the outer structure and drop-offs. Most active early morning and late evening, and the flat seas make nearshore work on these schooling fish considerably easier.
Best approach today: fish the morning tide transitions and go early — for the bite, for the parking, and because tomorrow's water is a different proposition.
