Lovely conditions, slow fishing — worth being straight about the gap. Light northwest to southwest winds run 0–11 mph with surf of 1 to 1.1 ft, water holds at 86°F, and rip current risk is at low. But solunar activity rates low across all three beaches, and feeding response is expected to stay sluggish regardless of how inviting the water looks. Flags: Navarre and Pensacola green with purple, Destin yellow with purple. A Heat Advisory runs 11 AM to 8 PM at a heat index of up to 108.
The National Weather Service has a Heat Advisory in effect for Escambia, Santa Rosa and Okaloosa coastal counties from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM CDT today, with heat index values up to 108 degrees. That is the lowest figure of this run and well down from the 115 of last Tuesday, but it is still the tenth consecutive day under advisory or warning. Drink water steadily rather than waiting until you are thirsty, wear lightweight loose clothing, and take breaks in shade or air conditioning.
Watch for heat exhaustion: heavy sweating, weakness, dizziness, nausea or confusion. Anyone showing those signs should get to a cool place and drink water immediately. If someone becomes unresponsive or loses consciousness, call 911 — heat stroke is a medical emergency. Check on elderly neighbours and anyone with health conditions, and never leave children or pets in a parked car.
Spanish mackerel, bonita, bluefish, hardtail and cigs are all present along the beaches, piers and nearshore Gulf. They are simply not feeding hard today. That changes the approach rather than cancelling the trip: work the early morning around the high tide windows, target structure and any water that is actually moving, and keep covering ground rather than sitting on a spot waiting. Midday slack will be the worst of it. Rip risk is low so wading is straightforward, but all three beaches are flying purple for dangerous marine life — bare legs in the water are a poor idea today.
What's Active Today
Spanish Mackerel — The most reliable option along all three beaches despite the low solunar rating. Position near pier structures, deeper troughs and anywhere with current movement. Early morning beats midday slack by a clear margin.
Bonita — Present along the beaches and in deeper water nearshore. These fish prefer moving water and tidal transitions, so expect reduced feeding intensity compared with the higher-solunar days earlier in the week.
Bluefish — Showing in nearshore and Gulf waters from the Pensacola area through to Destin, more prevalent in deeper water than the shallow beach zones. Best success comes early morning and through the tidal transitions.
Hardtail — Mixed with the mackerel near pier ends and sandy bottom. Present through the day but feeding more actively during the moving-water periods. Concentrate effort around structure.
Cigs — Scattered through the nearshore action along the whole stretch, more prevalent around deeper water and trough edges. Early morning effort typically outperforms the afternoon lull.
Best approach today: fish the early morning high tide windows and target current and structure, not open beach — on a low-solunar day the fish will not come to you.
Optimal Fishing Windows
The early morning highs are the whole story today. Pensacola peaks first at 1.68 ft at 3:42 AM, then Navarre at 1.75 ft at 5:08 AM and Destin at 0.80 ft at 6:34 AM. Lows land 4:46 PM at Pensacola (0.10 ft), 5:23 PM at Navarre (0.19 ft) and 6:19 PM at Destin (0.08 ft). Navarre has the biggest range at over a foot and a half; Pensacola has the longest fall at more than thirteen hours. With solunar rating low, the tide is doing all the work — so fish the transitions and skip the midday slack. Destin's 6:19 PM low also pairs well with an evening session once the advisory lifts at 8 PM. Live tide times are on the tides page.
Beach-by-Beach Overview
Navarre Beach
Spanish mackerel and bonita offer the best shots at consistent catches. Light winds keep conditions workable all day, and Navarre has the biggest tidal swing of the three. Target pier ends, deeper troughs and nearshore structure where fish concentrate. Early morning effort pays off far more than a midday session today. Green plus purple, rip risk low. Contact Navarre Beach Marine Park for current access information. Full Navarre Beach conditions are posted separately.
Pensacola Beach
Spanish mackerel and bluefish show the best results in the nearshore Gulf water. Calm seas and light winds keep things fishable through the day, and the 3:42 AM high means the falling water is well underway by first light — the earliest start of the three. Concentrate on pier pilings, tidal channels and deeper structure. Green plus purple. Check with local operators along the causeway for current access information. Full Pensacola Beach conditions are posted separately.
Destin
No municipal pier here, so it is East Pass charters or surf fishing at Henderson Beach. Spanish mackerel and cigs deliver the most reliable action along the beachfront. Near-calm winds support all-day effort, but with solunar low the sensible plan is to focus on current movement and deeper structure rather than open shallow beach. The 6:19 PM low is the latest of the three. Yellow plus purple. Verify current pier access with local facilities. Full Destin conditions are posted separately.

Navarre and Pensacola are green with purple; Destin is yellow with purple. Rip current risk is at low and forecast to hold there through Tuesday with surf around a foot. A Heat Advisory runs 11 AM to 8 PM with heat index values up to 108 — the mildest of a ten-day run, but still in effect. The water is lovely and the bite is slow; fish the early morning and treat the rest as a beach day.
