The National Weather Service has rip current risk at low today with surf of 1 to 2 feet, and low every period from now through Wednesday with surf easing to a foot or less. That completes the unwind from Wednesday and Thursday's high-risk episode — high, then moderate yesterday, and now settled.
Low risk does not mean no risk: life-threatening rip currents still form near piers, jetties and groins on the calmest days, so give those structures room and swim near a lifeguard. But this is the most settled stretch of water since the Labor Day weekend.
Pompano appear in today's report for the first time in about three weeks. That is worth noting beyond the catch itself: they are a seasonal marker on this coast, and their return alongside a broad seven-species spread suggests the water is beginning its autumn transition. Look for them along the beaches in shallow structure and sandy zones near the pier areas — they are bottom feeders, so work low and slow rather than fishing the water column.
With rips back at low, wading is straightforward again after a week when it was not. Note that Pensacola is flying a purple flag for dangerous marine life, so bare legs are a poor idea there specifically.

Spanish Mackerel — The most dependable target along the beachfront and pier areas, responding aggressively to moving water. Position near pier pilings and deeper troughs. Action starts early and holds through the day with good tidal support.
Ladyfish — Running strong along the beachfront with consistent opportunities. Aggressive feeders offering solid action around structure and in moving water; early morning and the tidal transitions deliver peak activity.
Pompano — Back after roughly three weeks away. Active along the beaches and in shallow structure, near pier areas and sandy zones. Tidal flow is producing more consistent feeding for them than in recent weeks.
Hardtail — In good numbers nearshore and around structure. Schooling fish showing strong feeding response in moving water, mixing well with Spanish mackerel near the piers and deeper zones.
Bonita — Active in the nearshore Gulf with excellent feeding response. Strong fighters showing aggression around structure and current, and better suited to boat fishing in deeper water.
King Mackerel — In deeper water and at the pier ends, favouring the nearshore Gulf over the beachfront. Focus on structure and current edges; more productive in the deeper sections.
Yellowtail Snapper — Active in the nearshore Gulf with strong feeding patterns. Structure-oriented, concentrating around deeper areas and current zones; boat access works best.
Best approach today: fish it whenever suits — high solunar and light winds support a full day, and work low and slow for the pompano while they are here.

The highs fall before dawn and the lows land in the afternoon, giving a long steady fall through the usable day. Pensacola peaks first at 1.76 ft at 1:52 AM, then Navarre at 1.83 ft at 2:59 AM — the strongest of the three — and Destin at 0.84 ft at 4:32 AM. Lows follow at 3:23 PM at Pensacola (0.29 ft), 3:47 PM at Navarre (0.35 ft) and 4:48 PM at Destin (0.13 ft). Early morning, midday and late afternoon all deliver strong activity today, and the light winds mean current is not a limiting factor — on a high-solunar day with this many species running, the whole day is worth fishing rather than just the transitions. Destin
No municipal pier here, so it is East Pass charters or surf fishing at Henderson Beach. Spanish mackerel, ladyfish and pompano are accessible along the beachfront with hardtail providing mixed action, and the nearshore Gulf delivers bonita, king mackerel and yellowtail snapper.
