The National Weather Service has a Heat Advisory in effect for Escambia, Santa Rosa and Okaloosa coastal counties from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM CDT today, with heat index values up to 108 to 111 degrees — higher than yesterday, and the fourth consecutive day under advisory. Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illness. Drink water steadily rather than waiting until you are thirsty, wear lightweight loose clothing, and keep strenuous activity to the early morning or evening. Take breaks in shade or air conditioning; a beach umbrella alone is not enough at these numbers.
Watch for heat exhaustion: heavy sweating, weakness, dizziness, nausea or confusion. Anyone showing those signs should get to a cool shaded place and drink water immediately. If someone becomes unresponsive or loses consciousness, call 911 — heat stroke is a medical emergency. Check on elderly neighbours and anyone with health conditions, and never leave children or pets in a parked car.
Four days of accumulated heat exposure is the part worth taking seriously. Fluid deficit carries over from one day to the next, so anyone who has been on the beach since Thursday is starting today already behind — drink more than you did yesterday, not the same amount, and treat a shorter session as the sensible choice rather than a missed opportunity.
The swings today are the smallest in a fortnight — two tenths of a foot at Navarre, and the same at Destin. There is effectively no tidal current to concentrate bait, so the usual advice about fishing the transitions does not buy you much. Work structure instead: sandbar cuts, deeper troughs and pier pilings, where fish hold regardless of what the tide is doing. Rip current risk is low so wading is straightforward, though rips still form around pier pilings and the passes, and Destin's purple flag makes bare legs a poor idea there.

Spanish Mackerel — The most consistent target along all three beaches. Work the deeper troughs, sandbar cuts and pier structures. Early morning is the window today, before the heat builds.
Hardtail — Running mixed with the mackerel near pier pilings and over sandy bottom. Present through the day and not especially dependent on tidal movement, which makes them a reasonable target on a day with this little current.
Ladyfish — Through the shallows at all three beaches, around sandbars and pier structure. Reliable action and a good option close to shore if you are keeping the session short.
Bluefish — Mixed with the other species around the beach troughs and sandbar cuts. Day-long presence.
King Mackerel — Holding in deeper water around the pier ends and offshore. Boat access or extended pier reach is what opens this one up, and an early departure beats an afternoon one today.
Cigs — A secondary target around deeper structure, best in the early morning.
Best approach today: fish before 11 AM or after 8 PM and work structure, not the tide — there is barely any in it.
Optimal Fishing Windows
Navarre runs a low at 6:12 AM, a high of 0.8 ft at 2:01 PM and a second low of 0.7 ft at 5:41 PM. Pensacola has a 0.6 ft low at 10:24 AM, with the afternoon high estimated around 1:11 PM — the National Weather Service product publishes only the low for Pensacola Pass today, so treat that high as approximate. Destin bottoms out at 0.2 ft at 10:24 AM before a 0.4 ft high at 3:44 PM. Every afternoon high falls inside the advisory window, and the swings are too small to drive much of a bite anyway, so the early morning is the session that makes sense — Navarre's 6:12 AM low in particular. Navarre Beach
Clean green flag, no purple, and the earliest usable window of the three at the 6:12 AM low. Spanish mackerel and hardtail are working the pier ends and deeper troughs, with ladyfish and bluefish through the shallower water. Light west winds keep conditions easy all day. Pensacola Beach
Green flag with the purple down after fifteen days — the cleanest status here in over two weeks. Spanish mackerel and hardtail are on the pier ends and deeper features, with king mackerel further out for anyone with the reach. Water will be clear with surf this small, so lighter presentation helps. Tide data is thin here today, so do not plan tightly around the afternoon high. Destin
No municipal pier here, so it is East Pass charters or surf fishing at Henderson Beach. Flat water and 5 mph winds make for an easy run offshore where king mackerel are the draw — but an open deck at a heat index above 108 is punishing, so morning departures beat afternoon ones. From the beach, Spanish mackerel and hardtail work the cuts and sandbars. Yellow plus purple, the only purple flag on the coast today, so keep bare legs out of the water.
