The National Weather Service has rip current risk back at low today after two days at moderate, with surf easing to 1 to 2 feet. Low risk is forecast to hold every period through Monday, so the rougher water midweek was a short feature rather than a new pattern. Low risk does not mean no risk: life-threatening rip currents still form near piers, jetties and groins on the calmest days, so give those structures room and swim near a lifeguard.
Rain probability runs 50 to 60 percent today with a chance of thunderstorms. Calm water and light winds make the beach look like a safe bet, and for swimming it is — but a thunderstorm is a different matter. Lightning is a genuine water-safety hazard and often arrives before the rain reaches you, and there is no shelter on open sand.
If you hear thunder, leave the water and get inside a building or a hard-topped vehicle. A beach umbrella or a pier deck is not shelter. Wait 30 minutes after the last thunder before going back out.

Spanish Mackerel — Reliably present around the piers and along the beachfront. Target shallow structures and current edges where they congregate. Activity stays strong through the day with productive windows during the tidal movements.
King Mackerel — Showing in the nearshore Gulf with particularly strong representation today. Position in the deeper water zones and around structure; the very high activity rating means consistent opportunities through most hours.
Bonita — Active in nearshore waters at all three beaches. Aggressive feeders that respond well during the tidal transitions and maintain a strong feeding response on a high solunar day.
Yellowtail Snapper — Reported from Pensacola through Navarre and Destin. Target the deeper nearshore structure and look for concentrated groups during tidal activity.
Cigs — In good numbers through the nearshore water, highly active with a strong feeding response. Effective around structure and the current transitions.
Hardtail — In the nearshore Gulf, with very high activity meaning solid action on these hard pullers through the day. Concentrate near the deeper water and current edges.
Best approach today: fish it whenever suits — very high solunar keeps the whole day productive, and keep the session flexible around the 50 to 60 percent rain chance.
Optimal Fishing Windows
With very high solunar activity, multiple prime windows open through the day. Pensacola peaks first at 1.57 ft at 9:45 AM and runs a second high of 0.92 ft at 11:18 PM, with a 0.70 ft low at 5:18 PM between them — the only one of the three with two highs. Navarre tops out at 1.65 ft at 10:59 AM, the strongest of the day, falling to a 0.80 ft low at 7:09 PM. Destin peaks at 0.72 ft at 11:06 AM with a 0.26 ft low at 8:39 PM. Early morning from first light through mid-morning and late afternoon through dusk are the strongest periods, but the midday stretch is worth fishing today rather than skipping it. No municipal pier here, so it is East Pass charters or surf fishing at Henderson Beach.
