Spanish Mackerel — The most reliable target along all three beaches. Position near pier pilings, deeper troughs and the outer sandbars. Peak activity comes in the morning and around the tidal transitions; these fish hold steady through midday before picking up again around the evening low.
Hardtail — Running mixed with the mackerel near pier structures and over sandy bottom. Present through the day with the strongest response during slack water transitions and near bottom features. Look for them in the same zones as the Spanish.
King Mackerel — Active in deeper water near the piers, particularly early morning and early evening. These larger fish prefer deeper structure and respond well when tidal transitions increase current flow.
Best approach today: fish the mid-morning high, then come back for the evening low — today has two windows, not one.
Optimal Fishing Windows
The highs are staggered across nearly two hours, so you can work more than one beach if you want to. Pensacola peaks first at 2.03 ft at 8:19 AM, then Navarre at 2.08 ft at 9:38 AM and Destin at 0.93 ft at 10:07 AM. All three fall to negative lows in the evening: −0.13 ft at 6:57 PM at Pensacola, −0.11 ft at 8:08 PM at Navarre and −0.02 ft at 9:20 PM at Destin. Destin
Spanish mackerel, hardtail and king mackerel are all showing excellent activity, and the 10:07 AM high should trigger improved feeding — the latest window of the three by a wide margin. Light southwest winds and calm seas make conditions ideal all day, and the 9:20 PM low gives the longest evening session on this stretch. Yellow plus purple here too.
