Navarre Beach is flying yellow and purple flags over the calmest water in a fortnight. Surf is down to 0.7 ft with light northwest to southwest winds at 2–12 mph, and rip current risk stays at low. Water is 86°F with highs near 90°F and a 30 percent rain chance day and night. A Heat Advisory runs 11 AM to 8 PM, though the coastal zones sit at the cooler end of it.
The National Weather Service has rip current risk at low today with surf around a foot. Low risk does not mean no risk: life-threatening rip currents still form near piers, jetties and groins on the calmest days, so give those structures room and swim near a lifeguard. Low risk is forecast to hold right through Tuesday with surf staying around a foot — a settled stretch of water ahead.
The National Weather Service has a Heat Advisory in effect from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM CDT today. The advisory covers a wide area of southwest Alabama, northwest Florida and southeast Mississippi with heat index values of 108 to 112 degrees; the coastal zone forecasts put the beaches themselves nearer the lower end, around 106 to 107. Either way it is hot enough to matter, and it is the ninth consecutive day under advisory or warning. Drink water steadily rather than waiting until you are thirsty, wear lightweight loose clothing, and take breaks in shade or air conditioning.
Watch for heat exhaustion: heavy sweating, weakness, dizziness, nausea or confusion. Anyone showing those signs should get to a cool place and drink water immediately. If someone becomes unresponsive or loses consciousness, call 911 — heat stroke is a medical emergency. Check on elderly neighbours and anyone with health conditions, and never leave children or pets in a parked car.
Yellow means moderate hazard: moderate surf, moderate currents, or both. Swimming is allowed but calls for caution. With surf at 0.7 ft and rip risk at low, the yellow flag today is a local call by lifeguards rather than anything the regional forecast shows — the flags describe what is actually happening in the swimming area and take precedence. Stay close to shore and swim near a lifeguard.
The purple flag is up alongside the yellow, meaning dangerous marine life has been reported in the water — on this coast in August that usually means jellyfish or Portuguese man-of-war. Purple is an additional warning, not a downgrade of the yellow flag. Man-of-war tentacles still sting after the animal washes ashore, so give anything stranded on the sand a wide berth and keep children and dogs away from it. Shuffle your feet in the shallows for rays.
The National Weather Service has today's UV index at very high. White sand reflects UV back at you, so beach exposure runs higher than the number suggests. Cover up, reapply sunscreen through the day, and take shade between 10 AM and 4 PM. With the water this calm, sunburn and heat are the realistic hazards today — not the Gulf.
Is It Safe to Swim at Navarre Beach Today?
Yes, with normal care. Sub-foot surf, light winds, low rip current risk and 86°F water make this an easy day in the Gulf. The yellow flag means pay attention rather than anything alarming, so swim near a lifeguard and stay within your depth. The purple flag is the one live concern in the water — watch for jellyfish and avoid anything washed up on the sand. Out of the water, the heat and the very high UV are what will actually spoil an afternoon, so plan shade and fluids.

Navarre Beach Pier Today
Another strong pier day. Solunar rates high, seas are down to 0.7 ft and winds are light, so casting conditions are about as good as they get. Bonita are the top target along the Gulf-facing beach and pier, with hardtail alongside near the deeper structure and troughs and cigs mixed through. The 3:48 AM high means the entire morning is a long falling tide — that is the session, and it runs well before the advisory window opens. Contact Navarre Beach Marine Park for current pier hours and access.

|---|---|---|
| High tide | 3:48 AM | 1.73 ft |

A 1.73 ft high before dawn falling nearly thirteen hours to a 0.23 ft low in the late afternoon — the biggest tidal range of the three beaches today, and the most current available on this stretch. Full tide charts are on the live tides page.
7-Day Outlook
Saturday brings scattered afternoon thunderstorms with highs near 91°F, then Sunday improves to mostly clear skies with highs around 92°F. Rip current risk stays low through Tuesday with surf around a foot and light west to southwest winds. The extended forecast shows typical late-August patterns — afternoon storm potential and warm temperatures in the low 90s through the period. The heat has eased from last week's extremes but advisories remain likely, so keep checking before you head out.
