A yellow flag at Navarre Beach today, with two National Weather Service products in force: a Rip Current Statement until 7:00 PM and a Flood Watch until noon. Seas are up at 2.4 ft with north-northeast winds at 2–15 mph, water has cooled to 83°F and rain probability runs 80 percent through the day. A wet, unsettled start to October.

🚩 Yellow Flag — Moderate Hazard

Yellow means moderate hazard: moderate surf, moderate currents, or both. Swimming is allowed but calls for caution — and with a Rip Current Statement in force until 7 PM, that caution is not a formality today. Stay close to shore, swim near a lifeguard, keep weaker swimmers and children within arm's reach, and give the pier structure a wide berth.

⚠ RIP CURRENT STATEMENT — In Effect Until 7:00 PM Tonight

The National Weather Service has a Rip Current Statement in effect until 7:00 PM CDT today for this stretch of coast. Rip currents can sweep even strong swimmers away from shore into deeper water faster than they can swim back.

Swim only near a lifeguard, and stay out entirely if no lifeguard is on duty. Keep clear of piers, jetties and groins, where rip currents run hardest.

If you are caught in a rip current: stay calm, relax and float — do not swim against the current, because exhaustion is what kills people in rips. If you can, swim along the shoreline to get out of the pull, then angle back in. If you cannot escape, face the shore and call or wave for help. If you see someone else caught, do not go in after them: call 911 and throw them something that floats.

🌧 FLOOD WATCH — In Effect Until Noon Today

A Flood Watch is in effect until 12:00 PM CDT today, with rain probability at 80 percent through the daylight hours. Excessive runoff may cause flooding of rivers, creeks, streams and other low-lying, flood-prone areas, and flooding is possible in poor-drainage and urban spots where storm drains and ditches clog with debris.

For anyone travelling to the coast this morning, that is a road hazard as much as a water one: standing water on causeways and low-lying approaches is the practical risk. Monitor later forecasts and be alert for a possible upgrade to a Flood Warning. Never drive through a flooded roadway — you cannot judge the depth, and it takes very little moving water to float a vehicle.

🍂 The Season Has Turned

Gulf water is down to 83–84°F from the 86–87°F that held through most of September, and afternoon highs are now in the low 80s rather than the upper 80s. Navarre's 68°F morning continues the cooling trend that started late last month. The water is still comfortable for swimming on a settled day, but this is autumn rather than an extension of summer, and the pattern of frequent rain reflects that.

Is It Safe to Swim at Navarre Beach Today?

Only with real caution, and only near a lifeguard. The yellow flag permits swimming, but a Rip Current Statement is in force until 7:00 PM — rip currents can sweep even strong swimmers away from shore. At 2.4 ft the surf is up on recent weeks, and an 80 percent rain chance means visibility and conditions will shift through the day. If there is no lifeguard on duty, stay out. Keep children close and shallow, and give the pier structure room.

Navarre Beach Pier Today

Solunar rates average and the fishing is workable, but take the rip statement seriously if you were planning to wade — the pier deck is the sensible choice today. Spanish mackerel and bluefish remain the strongest options along the beach and pier, with redfish around structure as secondary targets. Concentrate on pier ends, deeper troughs and the outer sandbars. Navarre's 5:37 AM high at 1.88 ft is the biggest tide of the three, falling to a 0.26 ft low at 4:32 PM. Bring proper rain protection — 80 percent is not a passing shower forecast. Contact Navarre Beach Marine Park for current pier hours and access.

Navarre Beach Tides Today

TideTimeHeight
High tide5:37 AM1.88 ft
Low tide4:32 PM0.26 ft

The 5:37 AM high at 1.88 ft is the strongest tide of the three, falling nearly eleven hours to a 0.26 ft low in the late afternoon — over a foot and a half of movement, giving real current through the day. Full tide charts are on the live tides page.

7-Day Outlook

Rain dominates much of today, with temperatures noticeably cooler than summer and north-northeast winds holding moderate strength. The rainy pattern eases by midweek as high pressure builds, and by Wednesday clearing skies and gentler winds return. Beyond that the extended outlook shows autumn establishing itself: cooler mornings, mild afternoons and scattered shower chances early in the day. Gulf water will keep declining toward typical fall values. Because the surf zone product has not been reissued recently, check the live conditions page and the flags on the beach for the current rip current rating rather than relying on an outlook.
