The National Weather Service has a Flood Watch in effect through Friday afternoon for Escambia, Santa Rosa and Okaloosa counties, coastal and inland. Excessive runoff is expected to cause flooding of rivers, creeks, streams and other low-lying and flood-prone locations, with extensive street flooding likely in some areas. Area creeks and streams are already running high after this week's rain, so further heavy downpours will have less room to soak away.
Do not drive through flooded roads. Most flood deaths happen in vehicles, and it takes surprisingly little moving water to float a car. If you are staying near the beach, allow extra time for travel, expect standing water on low-lying causeway and access roads, and park away from areas that pool. A watch means conditions are favourable for flooding rather than that it is already happening — but it is a reason to keep an eye on the radar and on any warnings that follow.
Everything about the water says fish today. Everything about the sky says do it in the morning and be prepared to stop. Pensacola's 9:02 AM high is the earliest window of the three and the best bet for a productive session before storms develop; Navarre follows at 10:27 AM and Destin at 10:50 AM.
Anglers are among the most exposed people in a lightning storm — open pier decks, boats, and long graphite rods held above the head. Plan a session you can end early rather than one you have to abandon, watch the sky rather than the rod tip, and head in at the first thunder. Roads matter too on a Flood Watch day: allow extra time and do not drive through standing water on the way home.

Bonita — The primary nearshore target across all three beaches, showing along the beaches, around the piers and in the Gulf just off the sand. Light winds make them more accessible than usual, and early morning produces the strongest bite — which happens to be the safest part of the day.
Hardtail — The other primary nearshore option, present along the beaches, around pier structures and through the nearshore Gulf zone. These schooling fish are particularly active during the tidal transitions, with peak activity mid-morning through early afternoon.
Yellowtail Snapper — The offshore alternative at all three locations, holding away from the beach and pier zones in deeper Gulf water. Best conditions come around midday when the water is calmest and visibility peaks — but weigh that against the storm risk before committing to a run out.
Best approach today: fish the morning highs and treat the afternoon as a bonus rather than a plan.
Optimal Fishing Windows
The tides favour fishing through the day at all three locations, but the weather narrows that to the morning. Pensacola peaks first at 1.65 ft at 9:02 AM, then Navarre at 1.68 ft at 10:27 AM — the strongest of the three — and Destin at 0.75 ft at 10:50 AM. Evening lows run 6:01 PM at Pensacola (0.46 ft), 7:22 PM at Navarre (0.54 ft) and 8:58 PM at Destin (0.17 ft). The morning bite before 11 AM typically outperforms midday, and the evening period after 4 PM would normally be the second window — today it collides with the highest storm risk, so treat it as conditional. The 9:02 AM high is the earliest of the three and the single best window on the coast today — it buys you the most time before storms build. Yellow flag, no purple. Destin
Bonita and hardtail lead the action along the beach and in the nearshore Gulf, with yellowtail snapper available in deeper water for anglers with offshore capability. Seas are the flattest on the coast at 0.6 ft, and Destin's 50 percent rain chance is the most modest of the three — the best odds of getting a full session in. Yellow plus purple.
