Henderson Beach State Park added a mandatory day-use reservation system on May 15, 2026. If you're planning a visit, you now need to book online before you arrive — showing up without a reservation will get you turned away at the gate. This is a significant change from how the park operated previously, and it affects everyone including Destin Beach Pass holders.

Here's what changed, how the new system works, and what to do before your visit.

What Changed at Henderson Beach State Park in May 2026

Before May 15, 2026, visitors could drive up to Henderson Beach, pay the entry fee at the gate, and enter if space was available. Lines during peak summer days regularly backed up onto US-98, sometimes causing significant traffic delays.

Starting May 15, 2026, all visitors must reserve a day-use pass online before arriving. The gate no longer processes walk-up admissions for day visitors. You will be turned away if you don't have a confirmed reservation.

Reservations opened on May 8, 2026, one week before the system went live. As of the launch date, visitors can book up to 60 days in advance.

How to Make a Reservation

Book at reserve.floridastateparks.org/Web/#!park/26 — that URL goes directly to Henderson Beach State Park's reservation page within the Florida State Parks system.

You can book up to 60 days ahead. The system is online only. There is no phone booking option for day-use passes.

Once you complete your reservation, you'll receive a confirmation email. Bring that confirmation — digitally or printed — to show at the gate.

What Does Entry Cost?

The reservation itself doesn't cost extra — you pay the standard entry fee.

What About Destin Beach Pass Holders?

Destin Beach Pass holders still need to make an online reservation. The pass doesn't exempt you from the new requirement. However, the City of Destin is providing a promo code to Beach Pass holders that allows them to register without paying the entry fee. The reservation is still required — the promo code just covers the cost.

Contact the City of Destin directly for the current Beach Pass promo code if you're a pass holder.

What Happens If the Park Is Full?

If a reservation window is full, you won't be able to book it. If you arrive with a reservation and capacity issues prevent entry for some reason, you can request a full refund by calling 1-800-326-3521.

The point of the system is to eliminate situations where visitors drive to the park and wait in a long gate queue only to find it's at capacity. With reservations, you know before you leave whether you have a spot.

Park Hours, Location, and Contact

What's Inside the Park

Henderson Beach stretches more than a mile along the Gulf. It's one of the few beaches in Destin where you're not surrounded by condos on either side — the park's 220+ acres include significant dune habitat that the development around it doesn't have.

Facilities include picnic pavilions with grills, restrooms, outdoor showers, a nature trail through the dune and scrub habitat, and 60 campsites connected to the beach via boardwalk. Beach wheelchairs are available at the ranger station. Alcohol is prohibited in all day-use areas including the picnic pavilions and beach.

Pets are not allowed on the beach or in the playground, but are permitted in other park areas on a leash no longer than six feet.

Note: The park playground was temporarily closed for maintenance as of early 2026. Check the Florida State Parks website for current status before your visit if you're planning around the playground.

What to Know Before You Go

Book your reservation as early as possible for summer visits, especially June through August. Saturday slots will likely fill the fastest. The 60-day advance booking window means you can plan two months out.

Once you're in for the day, leaving and re-entering may be subject to capacity limits. The park's guidance is to plan accordingly — if you drive out for lunch, you may not be guaranteed re-entry even with a reservation.

The new system is designed to make the peak-season experience at Henderson Beach more predictable. For visitors, the main change is planning a step ahead rather than showing up and hoping for the best.
