Finding public beach access in Destin takes some advance knowledge. The city has expanded its public beach inventory in recent years, but parking remains limited at most access points and fills fast during peak season. This guide covers the main public beach access points in Destin, what each one offers, what it costs to park, and which ones you should arrive at early if you're going in summer.
Parking fee information confirmed via City of Destin and Florida State Parks, May 2026.
How Parking Works in Destin
As of March 1, 2026, the City of Destin uses a mobile-friendly pay system called Destin Park & Play for parking in the Beach Parking District and Harbor Parking District. You pay by scanning a QR code or sending a text — no app required. Rates remain:
- Beach Parking District: $20 per 4 hours
- Harbor Parking District: $15 per day (flat rate)
Destin residents with a valid Resident Parking Pass (free, available at City Hall, limit 2 per household) can park in city-managed lots at no charge.

Parking: 27 spaces in a dedicated lot

Norriego Point faces the East Pass rather than the open Gulf, so the water experience is different from a standard Gulf beach. Popular with boaters who anchor nearby. One of the few spots in Destin where parking is currently free — this may change in the future, so check before you go.
Shore at Crystal Beach Park

Tarpon Beach is the city's newest public beach park, the result of a $16.75 million investment to expand beach access in Crystal Beach. Construction was underway on pavilions and restrooms through early 2026, with completion expected before summer. Check current status before visiting if facilities are your priority — beach access is available even while construction continues.
Crystal Beach Street Accesses (Shirah, Barracuda, Pompano, Others)
Several smaller beach access points run along Scenic Highway 98 in the Crystal Beach area. These are free to access but have limited or no dedicated parking. Street parking on Scenic 98 is $20 per 4 hours under the Beach Parking District rules.
These accesses are practical for visitors staying within walking distance in Crystal Beach, or for those willing to pay the street parking rate and who don't need restroom facilities. The beach itself at these access points is typically less crowded than the major parks.
Which Ones Fill Up First?
In order of how fast parking disappears on a busy summer day:
- James Lee County Park — free parking, high demand, fills by mid-morning on weekends
- June White Decker — smaller lot fills quickly
- Henderson Beach State Park — now managed by reservations, so capacity is controlled
- Norriego Point — small lot, fills by late morning on busy days
The general rule for free-parking beach access in Destin in summer: arrive before 9am on weekends or plan to pay for street parking.
What's Not Allowed on Destin Beaches
Per city ordinance: no pets, no open fires, no fireworks, no glass containers, no motor vehicles on the beach. Items left on the beach overnight will be removed by city staff.
